Get Tanked

Yesterday a woman asked me where I got the tank I was wearing. Well, I shared with her and since I love it so, I will share with you too. I was wearing the Amelie from Americas Basics in Brooklyn.

Tanks in the summer time are a staple. AB has a variety but I like mine fairly plain. For all you other sassy ladies, there is a wide variety of options. I have several and they are all that yummy cotton/lycra combo so they fit (and look) great on a variety of body types.

America's Basics in the brainchild of Lauren Mishaan, a young, hip, working mom of two darling daughters. Having dabbled in the fashion industry for years, she launched her own gig last year. And she is putting out some great t-shirt and tank options for women. And you can not beat the rock bottom prices. Plus, she is fun and I hope her company continues to grow leaps and bounds.

I am all for supporting any great business, and especially those owned by women.

My mom started a business in one bedroom of my parents house while I was in college. Her company grew, and grew, and grew until my mom had a formidable roster of clients including the United States Coast Guard. It was a great reminder to me that your Mom is so much more than your Mom. And I had never seen my Mom so kick-ass and phenomenal until the first summer I worked for her. She was successful, respected, and taught me some very great lessons. And chatting with Lauren last week, I shared my view because someday her daughters will say the same thing about her.

Now, check out her site, because next to a cocktail, a tank is the next best way to keep cool in the summer.

I agree. An armoured personnel carrier can get pretty stifling at this time of year.

You're not the first person to mention AB. I've looked at their site so many times and haven't ordered anything. Maybe it's time I do.

Here in Ireland it's jeans, jackets and wellies for summer. Oh, and don't forget your wetsuit for braving the Atlantic.

I LOVE AB. Yeah. I can shop to my hearts content for my daughter. Those cute fitted polos are to die for! Loved the shout out to your mum, it was incredibly sweet. My mum was a policewoman then a detective so I admire her in a totally different way - I guess that's where I learned it's okay to bust balls and to not let people push me around perhaps? Um, something to ponder, who knows it could very end up a post.

Thanks for the tip, they're very nice-looking clothes. And I'm tired of buying cheap crap from Walmart that falls apart after a few washings!

I'd love to go to the website and screen shop the lovely tank tops, but it's so cold here right now I'm afraid I might just get frost bite looking at the clothes :)

Enjoy your Sunday!

Some lovely tanks on that site,.. but it is too darn cold in my part of the world to fully appreciate them.

Now a cocktail, that is something else. Would warm me from the inside out!

YES! Finally someone who understands the importance of NOT just being a MOM! I love what you said about respecting the other side of your mom's life and supporting women business owners. I just launched my business this year and always think about how my now 18 month old daughter will eventually see that I can do more than just wipe her bottom, feed her food, kiss her boo-boo's, snuggle with her all night, and dance to 'all around the mulberry bush' like nobody's business!
And I will soon do all of this in more in the cute little tanks you just introduced me to...thanks!

What a great post. I love your last paragraph. It helps to realize as a mom things that I am (hopefully) teaching my daughter and son. Thanks for stopping by and for the wish for a better day. Thankfully it has been a great rest of the week! Only 1 or 2 cocktails were needed for relief the others were for sheer enjoyment!

love what you said. And yep, nothing keeps you cooler in the summer than a cocktail and a tank!

I have to agree, I love my tank tops! Working moms definitely don't get the credit that they deserve! I always think that men would be shocked if they ever really put it together everything that it takes to be fantastic on both fronts, personally and professionally, all at once!

Love the longer lengths and the prices! Yummy!

And how true about your mom. I remember the day I discovered my mom had 'another life' outside of housework and homework.

Aww, their tank tops are so pretty. They're very simple. But the colors are so striking that it's very noticeable. Plus, they are very sexy too... :D
