Room (dis)service

As I was packing for our amazing surprise getaway last week, I was chatting on the phone with one of my girlfriends, Bean. She asked where we were staying and I told her the Ritz Carlton. She laughed, which made no sense to me, and then shared this story.

Mr. and Mrs. X, a couple we all have become recently friends with, planned a night out on the town last month. After deciding to have their little ones sleep over at the grandparents, a night out became a big night out. Anyone with children on an overnight know this provides a level of freedom VERY different than just a simple night out which ends in relieving the babysitter and checking in on your kiddos snuggled in their beds.

As a parent, acquiring a rare morning to yourselves sometimes antes up the level of shenanigans the night before.

So this couple books a hotel room, and goes out on an adults-only bender which includes dinner, live music, dancing. Returning to the hotel, and apparently, still quite thirsty, Husband calls down for a bottle of liquor. Liquor comes, party continues.

The next morning, Husband recalls certain bits of the night but other components, dipped in haze, required him to ask his wife for further clarification.  Such as: When the man from room service arrived at their door, why was he so rude?

She looked at him and said, “Maybe because the way you answered the door?”

He asks, “What about it?”

“Well, you had no shirt on," she replied.

"So...?"

".... OR anything else.”

You poor room service guy. That’s not exactly the tip you were expecting, was it!

Note to self: Love that Mr. and Mrs. X know how to have fun.

Postscript to self: When planning fun outings with Mr. and Mrs. X, remember to never, ever share a room with Mr. and Mrs. X.

Post-postscript to self: I am SO glad neither Bean, nor Mr. and Mrs. X,  nor the service staff at the Ritz have a similar story to share about us.

Post-post-postscript: Just like Jerry Seinfeld told you, answering the door to your hotel room with your junk on display definitely qualifies as bad naked.

He remembered that the room service man was rude, but not that he answered the door in all his glory? Now THAT is funny! Thanks for the giggle. Kathy

I can't believe Mr and Mrs X had no qualms in narrating the incident to the ones who didn't have the privilege of watching! Courageous.

p.s. Have fun on your holiday!

Mrsblogalot said...

LOL!!! Poor guy! I didn't know there was such a thing as bad naked (-;

Ellie said...

HA! Now, maybe if Mrs. X had answered the door in a similar... fashion his response wouldn't have been so affronted!

Matthew said...

Probably best you don't book any family camping trips with them either.....

I am sooo glad that I didn't answer that door. This is too funny.

You are going to have a hard time keeping a straight face whenever you talk to Mr X.

Please do tell us how your getaway weekened was.

Do you think Mr. X would have felt worse if the room service guy had a devilish smile on his face instead?

Glad your little trip went well. I think that guy deserves hazardous duty pay.

That was funny that he kinda remember the rudness but not the whole naked thing.....oookay :)

yeah i might steer clear of room sharing as you may get a little more than you bargained for...lol.

Hahaha - I'm sure that room service waiter has told that story more than once.

I'm sure those room service people have so many stories to tell!!

hahaha awesome.

Snicker. :)

I am so glad you had a fun time with your husband!!

I love those overnights and I can totally relate, although we tend to remember what we did the night before and neither of us have done a "bad naked".

Not yet at least.

But as we get older the urge to have TOO much fun get's less and less interesting.

Happy Monday. :)

Mr X sounds like a brilliant man.

PJ said...

Hey Gal! I think an episode like that would tell me I don't hold my liquor well, and Never Drink Again! LOL!

The Mommyologist said...

I wonder if the poor room service guy ever got over it!! That is bad naked for sure!

PJ said...

Oh boy! I may have to retract that last statement! Hey Gal! That last comment belong to me, PJ. I'm not quite awake yet. Sober as a judge, just not awake. So sorry!

God Bless!

That is so funny.
Bad naked. I like that term.

Rebekah said...

That is the most awesome story I have ever read. I STRIVE to be that uninhibited!

Aging Mommy said...

Pretty bad - but not as bad as my old boss who, after a pretty wild time the night before, once opened his door stark naked to retrieve his morning newspaper only to hear his bedroom door shut behind him. He managed to find a telephone directory down the hallway and used that to cover the "essentials" when he went down to reception to ask them to come and unlock his door.

SamiJoe said...

Huge Seinfeld fan here too-- i kept thinking 'bad naked' through the story. LOL

Bad naked.
lol
Awesome.

One of my friends (that we used to share a hotel room with) is obsessed with being naked. Once in the Double Tree hotel took the elevator from the 3rd floor out to the car and back up completely bare assed.

Bossy Betty said...

OK, but at least it was in a hotel where he could just leave the next day. It would have been bad had it happened at home and the delivery guy knew where he lived!

Erin said...

Whoa!
I'm sure the Ritz staff still talks about that one. LOL!

How was your getaway sans Mini Mac?

Herding Cats said...

I'm sure people that work in hotels see sooooo much stuff they don't want to! Must make for good stories (or blogging)...

Square.

Dumblond said...

Oh...umm...yeah, that is all kinds of awkward. At least it was him and not you...but then again, the room service guy would have been much happier if it had.

"Dipped in Haze"...I love that. As many hazy moments as I have had, I can honestly say, none involve nudity in front of strangers.

Gucci Mama said...

That's hilarious. I pretty much love everything about it.

Matty said...

Sounds like the room service guy can add that one to his list of "stories".

Johana Hill said...

Hahahaha! Thank god I remember everything I do or say when I'm drunk.

Hilarious post! ;p

Freaking hilarious. Totally gave the room story guy a you'll-never-believe-this story to share.

Nice. Another reason I don't drink.

But, I do love to run around topless and I don't have any alcohol in my system!

Baloney said...

Do Mr. and Mrs. X know that you've heard their story?
I'll bet that story is still making the rounds at the hotel.

shortmama said...

Oh to see the look on the room service guys face when the door was opened!!

Ellen said...

LOL, love it! My bf and I are always trying to prove to ourselves that we still "got it." We like to have quiet nights at home just as much as the next couple, but we like to make sure we're always having FUN too! (Is 29 too old to do Jager bombs?!)

Good for them! Since the Ritz doesn't have porn, you kinda have to make up your own fun. ;)

LOVE the bad naked! Recently, we were at a hotel that had massage service poolside. A very, very large hairy man was getting a massage and he had chosen the naked-under-the-sheet-route, instead of the one the rest of us would have appreciated, the leaving the undies on. Every time the masseuse readjusted the sheet the whole pool experienced the bad naked. It was one long, collective groan.

Glad you had good times. *Sigh* With a houseful of company this week, I could have used a Ritz-take-me-away weekend.

Sounds like a fun couple, hahaha and yeah, I wouldn't share a room with them either!!

Did you have a great weekend away? Hope so :)

Eric said...

It could have been worse, he could have gone down to the breakfast area that way.

Vivienne said...

Well first, any time that I am naked is bad naked righ now.
The "no room/lodging sharing with Mr. & Mrs. X" philosophy sounds like a good one.
Hope you had a great weekend!
:)

Emily said...

hahaha! That's hilarious. My husband's best buddy is always getting naked when he drinks. That's never a good thing!

Midday Escapades said...

Oh dear, that is one hilarious story worth retelling over and over. I agree with mrsblogalot, is there such a thing as bad naked? LOL.

Ashley Stone said...

yikes, I hope they gave him a tip at least!

haha

I've considered getting a part time job at a hotel because we live near a lot of them, but it's this kind of thing that keeps me from actually doing it. lol

Toe said...

You would think that they might have expected something like the bad naked when requesting alcohol really late at night. It's either a great party or bad naked there's a 50-50 chance.

Jen said...

You have the most amazing and humorous stories JennyMac!

Aaaah, yes. Just one more way to do the "bad naked" to add to my list!

That is HYSTERICAL!

On my honeymoon, when Aunt Ruth felt it necessary to check on us at the family cabin, I BEGGED Splenda to answer the door naked. BEGGED him!

Too chicken, damn him

I have a story to rival that one but it would embarrass my other half and I try not to do that too often.

I'm going to take it a step further and suggest that you keep a minimum of one hotel floor's-worth of distance between you and Mr & Mrs. X.

What was he thinking? This is The Ritz, man! Put something over that.

uh, bad naked indeed
