Was Clark Kent onto something?

Yesterday I had an unexpected break before I needed to pick up MiniMac. Already in the car but past the gym, I decided to hit one of my favorite parks for a run in the gorgeous 70 degree weather. Gym bag in the car but no place to change. No problem. I am sure many of you know, most women can discretely change from a ball gown to a swimsuit and back fairly easily and quickly. I pull down a residential street. The street is deserted so I proceed to change clothes in my car. While I see not a soul in sight, I still don't lollygag. Perhaps I should have.

I went to the park which was chock full of other runners and got 3o minutes in before time to fetch MiniMac and return home.

Only at home do I catch a glimpse of the reason I should have perhaps taken more time.

Since I use lipstick that apparently lasts for 225 hours, it was not exactly the ensemble I would normally don for afternoon exercise.

Dark red lipstick: check

Black bra still on under white sports bra and white tank top. And oh so very visible: check

Pearls around neck: check

Just another jogger or a budding call girl? I know its the former but it certainly looked a bit like the latter. The only thing missing was beadhead and smeary black eyeliner.

Note to self: Clark Kent likely used the phone booth walls as a point of reflection when he donned his garb. Little spot check might be a good idea next time.

JennyMac - Well at least you gave the other runners something to blog about.

I say you planned it that way to throw other runners off their pace. Which in turn made your pace look even that much better. How very clever of you!

My problem is usually the mascara.... Cold creme won't take it off.... geez! Then there's that whole running thing too. I just don't do that on purpose....

I definitely do not look that good when running, so congrats to you!

I call that get up, "ready for any eventuality" or, perhaps, "Aerobically MacFabulous!"

Your subconscious was just trying to make jogging a little more stylish.

did the pearls thump on your neck as you ran? That would bug me!

Slamdunk said...

you never know, your fashion statement could spark a new revolution in acceptable running gear for parks.

You were totally making jogging more stylish!

Kat said...

I'm just impressed that you used your break to run. I would only run voluntarily if being chased by a nutcase with a knife! Perhaps you'll start a new trend. Have a great weekend, we are off to the coast for some MUCH needed R & R. Kathy

Actually, sweat is the best way to "clean" your pearls. They should be put on after perfume and hairspray and not worn in the shower. (I'm notorious for wearing the same necklace for days at a time so this is tough for me. ) Ultimately, you were doing good for your jewelry!

Unknown said...

I love that you used that time to run. How good of you! I need to be that way more often.

If I'd seen you out running like that, I probably would have simply felt all the more frumpy. Who knew I was supposed to wear my sexy bra, pearls, and lipstick to run?!!?

Menopausal New Mom said...

Great visual, I wonder if we will see a video of you on the internet?? Didn't I hear somewhere that white pearls go with anything anyway??

courtney said...

I have seen people working out in far more weird ensembles so don't worry!

Mrs Montoya said...

Now tell me you were smokin' hot running in your DFM pumps!!!! THAT would make it perfect.

Buckeroomama said...

I was just about to say that if you had been jogging with your pumps on, now that would have completed the get-up!

PippaD said...

See this is why I don't go running, everyone else always looks so darn sexy!

Holly said...

I don't know, it sounds kinda hot to me. ;-)~

mommakin said...

Oh, for a pair of high heeled sneakers...

And I feel fancy when I don my pearls and pumps to run the vacuum. (I don't, really. Vacuum, that is...)

McVal said...

You wanted to be the most glamorous one at the park! And I'll bet you were.

MommyLovesStilettos said...

That sounds like something I would do :)

If you run in your free time, then I'm sure you have the body to pull it off. If I was to get my fat butt out there, it wouldn't matter what I was wearing!

This provides an AWESOME mental picture and I unfortunately would definitely be internally mocking you if I had the motivation to run :)

Women are expert changers, you're right on that front. One time I changed an entire outfit while in traffice on my way out of Boston. I thought it was a special talent, apparently I am not alone!

Its OK. Most people in today's society would prefer to aid in the escape of such a harlot, rather than letting the pimp catch them... lol

Busy Bee Suz said...

Oh, if only we had a picture to go along with this!!! So funny.

JenJen said...

Hussy!
Kidding.
I've done something similar. I wore a pink bra under what I thought was a heavy thread count white top.
Turns out it wasn't, in the right light.
Which isn't the light I have at home in my dressing room, nope, the "right light" is that of the office.
*cringe*

Barbaloot said...

But really-is there any reason to NOT look glamorous just cuz you're running?

Vodka Logic said...

At least you exercise :(

brainella said...

That might make for a great new business -- hookers who jog and snog.

ellen abbott said...

Considering some of the jogging get-ups I've seen, you were dressed for the queen. (hee hee)

Eve said...

I totally agree with The Peach Tart!

mommakiss said...

Really, people probably just thought you were doing the walk of shame. Really fast.

MJenks said...

Yeah, but all he had to do to unaccessorize was take off the glasses and sweep that curl in the middle of his forehead UP instead of down.

Plus, look how many times he screwed up and left his underwear on OVER his clothes.

Krëg said...

I once wore two different shoes to work. But that made me look like a mental patient, not a hooker.

The picture I have in my head is Amy Winehouse in jogging gear... ha!

Too funny!

Confessions of a Mother, Lawyer & Crazy Woman said...

OMG! That is EXACTLY the outfit I wear while jogging! Except I also wear my black lace garters and Prada pumps. We're a little more formal up here in the DC area ...

Corrie Howe said...

This is slightly off topic, but have you even seen a phone booth lately? The last one I saw was at Busch Gardens, which they turned into a "height" station to measure children's heights and give them wristbands for the staff of roller coasters.

So sad to see the telephone booth just a shell of it's former self.

The Daily Connoisseur said...

lol! I'm sure you still looked fabulous... the chicest runner out there! xo

linlah said...

That jogging attire seems perfectly normal except the pearls.

I had to read this post 3 times b/c the second you said Clark Kent, I totally got distracted. Hmmm, now where was I? Oh yeah...your ensemble. You know, regardless of what you're going I think it's important to look your best at all time...make-up and jewelry always complete an outfit. :)

I bet next time you go running in that park there will be whole new following...lol

Southern Champagne Wishes said...

I love that you're wearing lipstick to go running (I think I would do the same thing -except on purpose)! Haha. You're just a fancy jogger, what can you say?

carissajaded said...

That is awesome. I haven't seen a phonebooth in ages!!! I didn't even know they still exist!

If I saw one I would probably use it to pick wedgies in!

sitting on the mood swing at the playground said...

Pearls and lipstick? No wonder I'm not a good runner...I don't have the right gear.

strokeofliving said...

PWR - Pearls while running, how very Carrie Bradshaw of you! Okay I've created yet another acronym, because we just don't have enough in the English language.

AnnQ said...

NICE! :-) (BTW, I've done that before and have felt the same way you did :-))

HalfAsstic.com said...

Aaah, JennyMac! Causing quite the stir are you? I just wanna hear about any propositions you get!

Jen said...

I bet you had everyone there wondering who the crazy lady was :) but yay for you for running! I would have probably wasted all that time with my iphone and the internet. or taken a nap.

Grand Pooba said...

Haha! Sadly even when I get changed at home sometimes I forget to take out my HUGE ASS earings and go to the gym ready for prom or somethin.

I would expect nothing less.

Maybe i would work out more if i was chasing that ;)

I think the whole sport of running needs a little glamor myself...I think you delivered what was sorely needed.

How funny. I think the best part of your story is that fact that it was 70 degrees and you could just run in a park in the middle of the day. It's cold, dark, and dreary in Upstate New York and I don't like it at all! I think I should consider moving south. Any fabulous suggestions on where to land?

Metropolitan Mum said...

HAHA. I want to see a picture.

Chic Mama said...

I have a great picture in my mind now. Must admit I was a tad jealous of the 70 degrees....it's got really cold here now.

Mrs. M said...

If you have to run, do it in style! Maybe go with a hot pink bra next time!!

Mr. Charleston said...

I must be missing something here. Your wardrobe was out of line? Is that possible these days? Were your pants falling down, your love handles hanging out? Are you covered in gauche tattoos and sporting camel toes? You probably started a new fashion trend.

Once upon a time and many moons ago, I traveled to NYC with Ella Numera Una. I think she was about 15, but certainly in full flower. We were walking thru Times Square, and she saw a vendor with selling those I Heart NY T-shirts. She purchased one, then decided she needed to wear it, RIGHT NOW. Thank goodness for a nearby phone booth and for the throngs of New Yorkers who have better things to do than stare at a shapely young thing disrobing in a phone booth...

Pearls are a wardrobe staple...And you know you looked fab.u.lous!

Leah Rubin said...

Yeah-- I went off to do a radio promotion spot this morning for my local NPR station, and when I checked my lipstick before getting out of the car, I saw I was wearing two different earrings...

Do I take one off? Do I hope these guys don't notice? Do I hope they DO notice and make zee beeg joke out of it?

Memo to self: mirror check BEFORE you leave the house!

I keep getting stuck on the words "Clark Kent!"

♥ Braja said...

It's the show off inside us that makes us do these things, seemingly subconsciously. Frankly, Clark had problems....phone booths?? :)

I'm just dying to know what kind of lipstick she uses!

wendy said...

Ah the quick, hurry and change before anyone sees you routine. Funny thing is, NOW I don't care who sees my boob flop out or a little "moonshine".
But that had to be one for a second glance running in pearls and bright red lipstick and the black bra under a white tank top is espcially diva-esk.
very cute

ThatsBaloney said...

I hate running. If I decide to take it up again, this will be the new look for me.
It would distract from my complete and total lack of coordination.

A.T. Post said...

I honestly can't figure out if (a) you're hogging more than your fair share of hilarious-yet-didactic anecdotes, or (b) that you're such an insightful and lyrical writer that you can turn commonplace everyday stories into the aforementioned hilarious-yet-didactic anecdotes. I'm thinking it's the latter. No flattery intended. Well done.

I am sitting here, wondering whether maybe you ARE super person. Fulltime job. Mom. Picking up kid. And you decided to go for a run when you have free time? First of all, free time? What free time? Do you have 48 hours a day 'cause maybe you can slow time down or you are from a different dimension or something? I am just absolutely floored you find the time and energy, and MANY BRAIN CELLS left to write these wonderful posts on your blog. Inconceivable!

I would've excused myself from running just because I had on make-up (oh, so bad for one's skin), so kudos to you for even doing it!
