Old cows can learn new tricks...

I know you might not believe what you are seeing. Or maybe you do. This is 15-year- old Regina Mayer and her cow, Luna. Regina initially asked her parents for a horse. They said, “No.” Regina literally looked in her own back yard and opted to train Luna to become her riding (and jumping) mate.

There are so many things I like about this situation.

1.   Instead of being a pissy pants pouty-face teenage girl (those exist, right?) she decided to be resourceful.
2.   Instead of lamenting that “all of the OTHER teenage girls in Laufen, Germany have a horse, why don’t I?!?!?!?!”, she chose to be creative.
3.   She spent hours and hours of training to teach Luna (and apparently, she also utilized “tons of treats” and of course, lots of love.
4.  I just discovered an old cow CAN learn new tricks.
5.  And most importantly, MY WORD, teenage girls are crafty. You have to be completely explicit with them when telling them NO!

Bravo Regina. I like your moxie and your style. And you remind me of another spunky girl (or two, or three, or dozens) who don't simply take "No" for an answer.

I heard about this and thought it was so awesome. I mean we all have this vision of cows being grass eating lazy things. This proves not only was she determined but that cows are very intelligent and can learn things like this.

Yes, well done, Regina!! One question, though: How does LUNA feel about all this? (I mean, aren't there "udder issues" when jumping those fences?) Just sayin...

Having grown up on a farm with cows, I can't even begin to imagine training one to do this! What a motivated and determined girl. She will go far in life!

Hi really nice to meet you. Came through Hot Cross Mum. I'm from New Zealand and have always loved that American expression. Lets have a cocktail. Makes everything seem so elegant and beautifully refreshing. Much better than the Kiwi version: "Have a drop of grog?" Anyway what a great pic of Regina - you go girl! TheTop Twins (famous singers) in NZ (sorry to be harking on NZ) rode cows too and didn't realise for a while that none else did it!

Cool. I think they should have had them jumping over the moon.

She must be proud to own one of the fittest cows in Germany :).

How many other cows can boast the same work out?!

That is one bad ass cow...The ability to show that kind of determination and dedication is going to be a very good indicator of how far she is going to go in life!

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Good grief. Do you think she makes threats about having Luna for dinner if she doesn't behave and act right?

When I hear no, the last thing I think of is riding a heffer.

I think if she says no with such strength that there is one cow that will never be named Steak!

I saw the video and it's pretty cool what this cow can do...and how much Luna is loved by the teen.

Growing up, our parents would say, "No, you can't do that. Or THAT!" Meaning that other options were out as well. Darn it!

I could continue the comments that milk the udderly poor puns...

...but I won't.

This is really cool! Move over Lipizzaner Stallions! I'd rather have a cow!
