Scaredy Cat

I have already told you before how I feel about roller coasters. Oh yes, the spinning, whirling, twirling. I used to love them like I loved scary movies. What happened? Oh, I know, I think there is a medical term for it called Scaredy Cat.

How much of a baby am I? Well. I decided on our last trip to Disney I would ride the Rock and Roll'er Coaster. This fast ride surrounded by blaring Aerosmith music is really about 2 minutes long. JMac rides this ride about 5 times a day. I decide to put on my big girl pants and ride it. Since I have ALREADY ridden it before, how bad could it be?

This bad: I get to the front of the line and decide to let a few people pass me. Then a few more. I am standing next to two girls who appear to be about 12. They are PSYCHED to go on the ride. I decide to get on and the split second that claustrophobia bar snaps down (also known as harness) I start getting antsy pants. The sweet 17 year old boy working says to me in his chipper sing-songy way, "Are you ready for fun?" And I reply "Is it too late to get off this ride?" He tries to give me a pep talk. Bless his heart.

How about LET ME OUT OK? PRETTY PLEASE? He kneels down to talk to me in a soothing voice which I find as soothing as acetone poured in my eye. Do I have to beg? Cry? High kick? Karate chop? He then flags someone down to unlatch me so I can pounce out of there like a cheetah. WHEW.

As I am walking down some dark bleak 'emergency exit' hallway, I hear two other very young Disney employees laughing and one says to the other, " I love adults who are actually big babies."

I am not a baby smartass, do I look like I am wearing a diaper? NON FRERE. I would only need one if I WENT on the ride. And it is actually what is referred to as a scaredy cat. BIG DIFFERENCE.

But I have no idea from where this scaredy cattishness stems. I used to be braver apparently. My BFF MarciaGarcia was shocked I backed out of the coaster. Even her sweet sister mocked me.

Now I will determine if I outgrew that scaredy cat fever. Why? Because we will be standing in front of that exact roller coaster in a few hours. JMac and I are taking MiniMac to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party tonight in DisneyWorld where I will thoroughly enjoy watching him thoroughly enjoy himself. Oh, and he is finally ready to "meet" the characters. Mr. Incredible is his new favorite. And as special treats for the Mom and Dad on this trip, JMac has planned some killer dinners in some of the uberfab restaurants in Orlando. And I will surely be sipping wine and watching fireworks on our balcony at night as well.

Five days in Florida where is currently 72 degrees? Perfecto. Have a gorgeous weekend. See you next week.

You know when I grew out of roller coasters and scary movies? When I had kids. Suddenly it put danger in a whole new perspective, and I couldn't "enjoy" those things anymore. It's not the same for men - they don't get those maternal hormones that change every bloody thing on the planet for you.

Don't consider yourself a scaredy cat, JM. Consider yourself SMART! In what possible rational state of mind can you justify putting yourself in harm's way? What scary movie is so worth seeing that you'll have fidgets (or worse, nightmares) about it thinking about your family in the same scenarios? Meh. Damn hormones.

And it's not just horror flicks and rides that did it for me. The movie "Sophie's Choice" scarred me for life.

Enjoy your trip! Perfect weather and great company. Sublime...

72 degrees huh?
I just came in from a walk with the dog and I think here in my area it is in the 20's.
While I don't envy being at Disney World I do envy the 72 degrees.

Have a great time....bitch.

Have an awesome trip, and I hope you build up the courage to try the Rock 'n Rollin Coaster. It's really not THAT bad. I was actually disappointed in it given all the hype.

I have personally never been afraid to go on a roller coaster of any kind. But Now *wink wink* with all my spinal fusions I have a wonderful reason to bravely say no I can't do that.

BUt I love to go and ppl watch. So that the rest of my family can ride the rides.

Sounds like a good time, the temp anyways.

Hope you make it thru it this time.

I think it's like horror movies. You just reach a point where you don't get a thrill from them...and then you start to hate them. At least that's what's happened to me and, when I asked around, I found a lot of others felt the same way. I think it's part of our maturing process!

Sounds awesome! Hope you get over your case of scardy cat. It'll be TONS more fun, if you do! Promise. I love that feeling you get as the coaster descends on a ginormous drop...SO.MUCH.FUN!

Enjoy your trip! I'm a little jealous. Just a little. :)

I am surprised the Disney employees disparaged you like that. They are supposed to be better trained.

Enjoy the rest of your stay.
If you want I'll send a goat down to butt the laughers...

On our trip last month, we had been wanting to get a good "coaster" picture with our group making crazy faces or other nonsense (we got a great one at Everest but they wouldn't sell it to us because my SIL fake punched her hubby). Everyone was set for do our thing since the camera is at the VERY beginning of Rock and Roll'er Coaster. Yet, in the photo, 3 of us look awesome and my husband is clutching the harness for dear life, looking terrified. So, of course we bought the picture!

Hope it was fun, and you didn't ride in the back cars. Those are the ones that really whip around...

I just look at the statistics... A good ride has never (well, hardly ever) killed anyone - so grit your teeth, close your eyes and just hang on.. they are all over in a few minutes...

Hope you enjoyed that 72 degrees. I'm sure it's no longer 72 degrees. Since you are but an hour from me in Florida, tonight will get down to 41 (37 here).

I get so motion sick on anything that moves so they could have called me big baby, scardie cat, fraidy cat...who cares. I'm not ashamed. I'm having more fun watching the people who get on it and swear never again when they get off! Have a fabulous time.

I would never call you a baby, or even a scaredy cat...because I wouldn't even have gotten in line!

I haven't been on a roller coaster since I was 7. And that was a kiddie coaster. I came off of it with SUCH a headache that I swore that I would never ride another coaster.

We will be in Orlando as well, hitting Universal's Ode to Harry Potter with the crew. And I am determined not to crap my pants and go on a grown up roller coaster. However, if I do, I am sure that Joshua will not mind that I used one of his Pull-Ups, right?

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Hope you get your roller love back too.

I know how you felt (feel). I will never ever ever get on a roller coaster. Splash Mountain. That's as far as I'd go. I don't know why you feel the pressure to force yourself to ENJOY something that you don't enjoy. Is there a prize at the end of the ride? Well, if you do try, I hope you DO find that, Hey, this is actually fun! and become a roller coaster addict from now on. LOL. Have a wonderful vacation! And enjoy going through the whole wonderful Disney World through the eyes of your child. :-)

Good for you JennyMac! I'll be headed that way two weeks from today to go home for a week...I, like you, will be enjoying the warmth after these teen and 20's nights. I know you can conquer your scaredy fear!!! xoxo

I am the same way! I was a danger freak when I was younger, and now, it doesn't take much for a panic attack to start. What the? Maybe I shot my nerves to hell with all the roller coasters and scary movies and such. Nowadays, I'm scared of escalators and anything considered a "dark topic" on Oprah.

I used to LOVE rollercoasters, The scarier, the better. Upside down, if possible. Arms up and laughing he whole way. But I've not been inclined to get on one is quite some time.

I am a big scardy cat too! I will give you all the sympathy you need LOL. Hope you have a wonderful time on vacation!!!

I think it has something to do with being older. Not that you're old. Nor am I. But when I was younger, I loved roller coasters, and now I hate them. I swear my sense of balance has changed or something.

I get sick just WATCHING someone on those kind of rides. At Disneyland, I'm all over the It's a Small World" teacup ride, but rides with names like "Devil's Tail" and "Pukebot"?...You can have my place in line! :)

Kir said...

I don't know if you went on the coaster yet..but I wanted to tell you that I'm with you sister.

I used to go on every ride, (Vomiting afterwards from my motion sickness aside) and loved it..but after the babies, the migraines the fibromyalgia ...and my own thoughts that I am going to die a horrible news worthy death...NO WAY!

I am so happy for the "It's a small world ride" LOL
