Take A Sip Of: Warm Sangria

It is 27 degrees here right now. I would include a sarcastic statement about the weather but apparently, Mother Nature is already my frenemy so I will restrain. And hopefully not wake up tomorrow to 7 degrees. All the cold weather deters me from cold beer and drives me toward red wine. But then I came upon another tasty sensation and I have to share. Warm sangria? Yes, please. And come over, I will pour some for you as well.

Warm Sangria
1 cup frozen peaches
1 cup frozen cherries
1/4 cup sugar

Place these ingredients in a medium bowl and let stand until thawed, about 10-15 minutes. In a medium size pot, pour one bottle of dry red wine (Rioja or red table wine) and the fruit mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup peach schnapps. Serve warm in mugs.

You can also experiment with different fruit like frozen raspberries or blueberries. I have also used a bag of frozen tropical fruit bought in bulk at Costco. You can also use triple sec or straight brandy. *Use grape juice or white grape juice in place of wine for a delicious non-alcoholic version.

Comments are off. Except to our friends in FL and AZ, everyone else: stay warm. PS: Mother Nature, you are so pretty. And talented. And I have learned recently, VERY creative. But I love it when you are in a good mood.
